Chapter 3
Damn it, I should've stayed home and reviewed for the tests this coming Friday.
Masuda thought. He has to admit, he's lost. He followed the address but it seemed that he missed a street or a corner or something because he didn't find his way there yet. He turns to look back and saw Tinny still following behind him. When he halted to a stop because he thought of giving up, Tinny snuggled on to Masuda's legs as if to urge him to go on.
"I'm lost. Where the hell is this cafe anyway?" Masuda thought out loud, frustratedly scratches his head as he continued his walk. Tinny stops suddenly and barked. Masuda stilled, confused and asked.
"Tinny, what's wrong?"
The tiny dog was barking at one direction that Masuda followed with his eyes. He saw a person there. Masuda gave a huff and decided maybe he should ask a passerby for directions. Masuda gestured Tinny to follow him as he approached the person. Upon getting closer, he finds that it was a man. He had dark brown hair, slouching and a hand in his pocket. He looked a bit older than Masuda was and seemed pretty harmless. Masuda tapped his shoulder.
"Umm...excuse me?" The man met Masuda's eyes and raised both of his brows with a questioning look.
"Do you know where Honey, honey cafe is? I got lost." The man thought for a moment and nodded. Tinny barked.
The man's eyes that had no interest at all but they brightened when he heard Tinny's bark. He looked around and around until his eyes fell and saw her. His eyes widened and looked at Masuda with his mouth in a small "O" shape. He kneeled down and took Tinny in his arms.
Masuda gave him a surprised look.
"So..I'm guessing you're the owner?"
"No way. It's not mine."
"Then why are you--"
"She's the cafe's mascot. I was searching for her today and was thinking of giving up looking for her but thankfully, you found her."
"Oh. You lost her?"
"Uh, no. I was asked to find her."
Masuda gave a pissed look at the side, the latter not noticing. What a real charmer this boy is. Masuda's job was done now and the person here will now take back Tinny to the cafe. Masuda gave a nod at the boy like he was silently telling him he needs to go home now since you now found your 'lost' dog. When Masuda was about to turn, he felt a hand curl around his wrist.
"I'm making my way over to the cafe. Do you mind coming with me? I'd like to treat you for finding this troublesome dog for me."
Masuda was thinking of declining but when Masuda heard the word 'treat' he agreed to come with. After all, he couldn’t deny anything that has anything to do with food and it’s free! They proceeded to go there in silence since Masuda doesn't want to have a small talk with this charming boy for the last 15 minutes. They arrived at the cafe, the man places Tinny down and she scrambles to her feet towards the counter and in the back room. The man leads Masuda to one of the tables and placed a menu in his hands.
"It's on the house. Decide on what you're going to order, okay? I'll be right back. I'll call the owner to assist and thank you for finding Tinny-chan."
Masuda was about to protest to tell the man not to bother calling him anymore but the man was already making his way over the kitchen.
Masuda placed his head on the cold table with a grumble. He waits patiently for the 'owner', tapping his fingers on the plastic menu and looking over on what he was going to eat. He looks around the cafe to find it full with teenagers and couples.
Since he was near the back room, he could he the voice of the man from earlier talking with someone.
"Yamapi? I'm so glad you've got Tinny back! I was so worried! Where did you find him?"
"A kid found him. Go out of there and thank him, will you? Oh, and he's on the house today."
"On the house? Definitely! I was so scared that Tinny might have died or got lost or something! Thank God!"
Masuda stopped listening to their conversation when the back door opened and someone came out. His eyes quickly fell on the menu again. The menu was lowered by someone's hands and a hand was greeting him suddenly. Masuda looked at it and gave it his hand and shook it. He heard him giggle.
"Thank you so very much for finding Tinny! I don't know what I would've done if something bad happened to her!"
"N-no problem." Masuda pulled his hand away from the owner's grip to look up to the owner's face. His jaw dropped.
There stood before him was 'Tegonyan', the stripper from last week's night. Masuda felt his hands start shake, his heart thumping faster and uncontrollably in his chest. This couldn't be a dream now, could it? The boy in front of Masuda smiled. He was so good looking, so handsome, his hair slightly messed up which suits him too, his eyes sparkled even more under the light and he seemed pretty normal compare to what he looked like from the club. Masuda silently thought that he looked much much right now than what he looked like in the club. (Since at the club, he barely had clothes on.) He looked pretty innocent but Masuda wouldn’t want to conclude that. He just met him for fuck’s sake.
Memories and the dreams inside Masuda's head started replaying as he sat there in front of ‘Tegonyan’, speechless. He could only process one word in his mind.
Shit.
_____
The latter seemed to recognize Masuda too.
Masuda has made his order minutes ago and 'Tegonyan' placed the gyoza in front of him with a smirk and unknown glint in the eyes. He sat down across him, the smirk still visible. Masuda’s blush was coming back at his cheeks.
“So, you’re the guy from last week’s night, right? What are you doing here? I never took you for a stalker, cutie.”
Masuda’s eyes widened at his last sentence. “The name’s Masuda Takahisa and for your information, I was not stalking you!”
The boy laughed, the laughter that made Masuda’s heart skip a beat. It was melody to his ears.
“I was just kidding. Don’t take it seriously.” The boy laughed but his expression turned serious when he leaned over towards Masuda a bit closer.
“Can I ask you something, Takahisa?” Masuda blinked twice and swallowed unconsciously.
“About last week,” Tegonyan started to play with Masuda’s fingers as he spoke. Masuda was a bit startled at how touchy he was. (He didn’t mind it though.)”Did you ran away that night from me because you were afraid or are you just not that into guys?”
Masuda tilted his head down, biting his lower lip. He watched ‘Tegonyan’ run his long fingers into his hand. Masuda didn’t know how to answer that. He wasn’t that into guys but maybe he was? He really didn’t know. “I-“
“TEGO! COME HERE AND FEED TINNY!”
Masuda was cut off. ‘Tego’ sighed in his seat. “What happened now, Pi?”
“Tinny kept squirming and stuff when I was trying to make her eat. She growled and bit my finger! She misses you too much! Thank God, she doesn’t have rabies. Get your ass here right now! I still need to attend some tables!”
‘Tego’ sighed in his seat once again and got up. He beamed Masuda a grin and a wink before pushing a piece of tissue in Masuda’s direction. Masuda watched him disappear in the back room. He looked down at the tissue in his hand and saw something written on it.
Taka, my job ends at 9.
-Tegoshi Yuya.
P.S. Call me “Yuya”.
Masuda was motionless as he stare at the words written on the tissue. What was ‘Yuya’ trying to say? Masuda thought hard if he should wait for him. His mind was battling if he should wait for him or not. This frustrated Masuda. He closed his eyes and Tegoshi’s grin appeared in his head which made the corners of his mouth curl up a bit.
That smile danced on his lips as he got up and went towards the cafe’s door. He decided to follow what his heart wants. He doesn’t know why he follows his heart; he really doesn’t get himself on why he wants to wait for him anyways. Well, he still follows to wait for Tegoshi. Masuda pushes the door open, the bells from above the door jingles which signals that he’s out. The cold night air hits his face and he figures he should check out a few stores nearby to pass the time.
_____
When Masuda came back to the cafe, it was 9:17, Tegoshi was already fixing the empty tables. The bells jingles from above as he entered, Tegoshi turns his head when he heard it.
“I’m sorry but we’re---“
“Closed. I know.” Masuda says, playing with the ends of his sleeves nervously with that crimson blush on his face. Tegoshi finishes cleaning and calls Tinny to come out. She comes running out from behind the counter and towards Masuda. The corner of Masuda’s mouth twitches as Tinny ran and jumped into Masuda’s arms. He flinches when she licks his face. He hears Tegoshi laugh.
“She likes you. A lot.” Masuda looks up to Tegoshi’s face to Tinny in his arms. He nods, uncomfortably in response.
“Taka,” Tegoshi says, removing his apron, puts it on the counter where he gets the keys afterwards. He strides forward to where Masuda is with a silly smile on his face.”I can’t believe you waited for me.”
“About that,” Masuda laughs nervously, not knowing what to say next. Tegoshi seemed to know he couldn’t respond and just nods. They head out off the cafe, Tegoshi locking the door of the cafe and turning the ‘Open’ sign to ‘Closed’. He turns to meet Masuda’s eyes and smiles. He looks a bit nervous.
“I’m glad you waited for me, Takahisa.”
Masuda nods again. Tegoshi laughs. “I-I-I’ll walk you home, Yuya.”
That stilled Tegoshi for a second but his smile got wider because of it and started to walk.
“Let’s go, then.”
