Okay, I had like the first full-on writer's block I've had with lyrics and for the last month or so everything's been like the same. I hated it. Now, though, I've burst through it with this baby! :D
Two cuts, the first is the poem, the second, the story for it.
Cynical, you wonder why?
Well, try and live my life.
If you saw what I've seen.
If you heard what I've heard.
You'd understand,
You wouldn't question me.
You won't have to pretend,
You'd know the thoughts deep inside.
Pessimist? Yeah, that's me.
Hold the cards to my chest.
If you knew where I've been.
If you felt what I've felt.
You'd understand,
You wouldn't question me.
You won't have to pretend,
You'd know the thoughts deep inside.
Disbelieving? Why not.
Hide myself behind a wall.
If you'd been dealt my cards.
If karma had churned you out.
You'd understand,
You wouldn't question me.
You won't have to pretend,
You'd know the thoughts deep inside.
Hopelessness? That's my lide.
Paint the smile on my face.
If you knew all the secrets.
If you came behind closed doors.
You'd understand,
You wouldn't question me.
You won't have to pretend,
You'd know the thoughts deep inside.
Please, I beg, prove me wrong.
Show me what love is like.
Help me through all that's wrong.
Make me feel like love is real.
cynical isn't directed at anyone in particular, it's more like an explanation to the entire male population telling them how fucked up i am. in short.
i was inspired by 'the only exception' - paramore because, the first half of the song screams MY LIFE! so i figured, if hayley williams could write a song so personal and revealing...why couldn't i?!
so, this is the most close-to-home song yet, i know i say that every time but i never thought i'd actually write a song about how cynical i am when it comes to love. irony was probably the closest i got, i thought i bared my soul, looking back..eeerrr, not so much.
