don't ask me why i ship taemin/suzy. it's because they look cute together(better than taemin/hara, but i still prefer taemin/sulli of coursE) and it's because suzy looks completely cute trying to mutter out taemin's name. it's
this post i'm talking about. this is complete crap because i wrote this in school. yes, i write fics in school because we don't study after major exams are over. (and yes i am proud of my crap)
bittersweet lips.
There are five things Suzy will never understand about Taemin.
i.
“I’d like to ask where’s classroom 4A” he says, shifting his feet and fidgeting his fingers in nervousness. Suzy points straight behind her by jabbing a thumb over her shoulders, the boy’s gaze follows the direction of her fingers and a delighted smile plays on his thin lips. Suzy glances at the boy’s name tag ironed over the top of his school badge on his uniform. Lee Taemin.
It is no surprise for Suzy when she sees the teacher introducing Taemin. She props her elbows on the table, rests her chin on her fingers and observes the curious glances of her classmates. It isn’t that she isn’t interested, it’s that she doesn’t really care. She drifts off towards her little land of daydreaming until the teacher snaps her back with a statement, “...in front of Suzy”.
Taemin is seated in front of her, he’s all smiles and pouts that she find herself smiling and pouting along too. Taemin is an odd student, really. Very odd to have a student transfer schools in the middle of a semester, right in between exams. Taemin only shrugs it off and it’s always ‘personal reasons’ when Suzy asks.
(Taemin’s eyes are always dark and cloudy when Suzy asks, she doesn’t really understand why)
ii.
It is a surprise when Suzy finds Taemin on the school rooftop, back against the tattered walls, cigarette dangling between the fingers and a tired expression showing in the depth of his eyes. “What are you doing?” she asks, the tremor in her voice as clear as crystal. Taemin puffs out a cloud of smoke, after inhaling the disgusting taste of the cigarette, “Don’t ask something you already know”.
“Stop, just stop”
Her voice is desperate, so desperate that it surprises her as well. She slides down the wall and sits beside Taemin and they just sit there, a comfortable silence hanging in place even though she wants to grab that cigarette off his dry lips. Taemin’s cigarette is almost at the end, he throws it on the ground mercilessly.
She grabs his hands before he reaches for another cigarette.
“Stop”
Taemin looks at her indifferently, “Kiss me and I’ll stop”. Suzy stares at him for almost a minute before she grabs him by the collar and plants her lips on his cold ones. The kiss is somewhat smoky, urgent and emotionless, but she just wanted to somehow.
(Taemin doesn’t stop smoking, but he requests for her kisses, she doesn’t understand why either)
iii.
Taemin likes to pass notes in class, a lot. It is a real surprise when Taemin passes a note with a few numbers and a ‘call me’ note to her during biology class. She doesn’t pass back the note, she stuffs it down her pocket before the teacher catches her and watches Taemin stifle down a small grin on his face. The first thing she does the moment she steps into her house is text him. (yes, and call him too)
They talk for almost three hours straight, Suzy decides that she needs to hang up because she still has got chemistry homework to finish up. But it isn’t her who presses the red button on the keypads of her phone, it is him. Her heart falls a slight bit, but she decides to put it on the back of her mind.
Her phone bills increases, because she texts and calls him almost everyday.
(Taemin disappears from school one day, he stops coming, he changes his number and tells her nothing, she doesn’t understand why)
iv.
Suzy sees Taemin on the television. She doesn’t know whether to feel surprised or not, she watches him on the screen of the television smiling his way through, receiving awards and tears on the verge of pouring. Suzy decides that she wants to be a singer too. She somehow smiles her way through auditions, somehow dances her way through practices and somehow debuts on stage, as a member of Miss A.
There are two Chinese members (Jia is the pink haired girl, don’t forget, Suzy tells herself) and one Korean member, Suzy doesn’t actually know where she belongs or what she’s doing here anymore. Minyoung approaches her one night, “What’s wrong?”. And almost immediately, without hesitation, she spills out everything and she shatters right in front of a girl she barely even know for four months.
She meets Taemin (finally, she thinks) but he walks right pass her with a slight bow. Minyoung holds her shoulders and whispers, “Be strong”. Her knees threaten to unbuckle, her tears threaten to fall but she stays strong. She refuses to cry in a live radio station. She forces a smile, answers every question and drink lots of water, lots.
(Taemin continues ignoring Suzy whenever their schedules clash, she doesn’t understand why but she’s no longer surprised)
v.
It is an ordinary Saturday when Suzy goes out for a jog, to keep herself fit. She wears a mask over her face to disguise herself, a hat over her pretty brown hair and a tracksuit. She doesn’t know how, she just somehow ends up on a rooftop of an apartment in the next street. The door opens with a rusty creak and the air is stale, just stale and bland.
“Sueji?”
Suzy almost jumps at her real name, she turns and sees Taemin, almost like a few years back, cigarette dangling between his long fingers, his round eyes showing nothing but surprise and Suzy just smiles, she smiles like she doesn’t see that cigarette between his fingers, she smiles like she doesn’t care.
“I’m sorry, Taemin-sunbaenim. I didn’t know you were here” she puts extra emphasis on the honorific used. Taemin frowns, “You’re not going to ask me to stop?”. Suzy closes the door, heaves an extra long sigh and looks at him with eyes that is void of hope. “It’s not like you will if I did. It’s not like you’ll tell me if I asked. It’s not like you know me”
“Kiss me”
And it is the magic words for Suzy’s hands to leave the doorknob, take a few steps forward, grab his collar and kiss him with her pink lips. But it’s different, because Taemin throws his cigarette away and snakes his arms around her waist. It’s different, it’s really different.
(Suzy doesn’t understand Taemin, she just doesn’t understand the boy, but she decides to savor the flavour of his bittersweet lips with the smoky taste)
