The Hunger Games

I saw this article about a Katniss Barbie doll on Yahoo earlier today. I don't have any huge objections to Barbie; I played with Barbie dolls a lot as a kid. I know their proportions are all off, and all the other complaints, but it doesn't bother me too much. Maybe it should, but it doesn't. However the Katniss doll does disturb me. I think a lot of the movie/tv/character Barbie & Kens and even some of the other brand action figures often...just don't quite make it. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes you can't pin down what is off about the look, but usually there is something.

I dunno. Barbie has pretty much always been a pretty girl look, no matter her more modern jobs or fashion trends--at least until put into the hands of all the little girls who drag them through tea parties, mud, swimming pools, sandboxes, piles of leaves....

I agree that a lot of movie Barbies and Kens don't make it for whatever the reason. I knew any Barbie made to look like Katniss would be pretty in some way, at least until some kid puts her through a homemade Hunger Games, because as you pointed out, Barbie is a pretty girl. It still seems off to me though.
