welcome to your new home dear ... I hope you settle in ok and that you get internet soon ... I know being internet deprived would totally drive me batty!
*HUGSHUGSHUGS* - hope your mum enjoys doing the curtain thing. As a temp solution you could drape some sheets over some windows and hook them or tie them down somehow till she comes.
take care and go slow with the unpacking dear. The boxes will soon diminish till you know the last three or four and then you go ... aaaargggh! Don't wanna do it any more.
Thanks for the good wishes. I thought about the sheet solution last night, but was too lazy, and I'm not sure what I would use to hang them.
My mother is now coming tomorrow, anyway, since I spent a good chunk of today incapacitated and/or in the emergency room. My estranged kidney stones decided now would be a great time to come back, and I'm pretty much out of commission. Well, I have lots of anti-pain, anti-nausea meds now, and I'm sure I'll be okay (I was last time it happened), but she still wants to come and help me out. Fine. She can take care of the damned kitchen cupboards.
On the bright side, I can see several nearby wireless networks on my menu, so I will certainly be able to get service. Even better, one of them is not password-protected, so I can mooch till I get my own!
I'm mooching a neighbor's signal till I get my own -- it made my night when I discovered it!
Unpacking will be slow, but at least I don't have a real deadline on it. I will try to unpack everything this time, at least: when packing up, I discovered a couple of boxes I had apparently never unpacked seven years ago when I moved the last time...
I really hope the internet thing works! We just got back from IL last night, but there's major sibling pressure to go back in about a week and a half, while I have done no writing yet this summer, so . . . eek.
Also, not to speak ill of the recently dead, but . . . let's just say that Dad's mom was just as sweet to him in death as life :P Details later, when we're online or on the phone.
And new fridges are awesome, but that makes for excitingness in the meantime with the minifridge.
I can't get pics off my camera! Apparently my mom not only got me a camera that won't talk to Macs, but also one that uses a memory card that most converters don't read. I have ordered one from a camera supplier, but not here yet. Meanwhile, see my comment to Zan, above.

Hope you get internet soon! It sucks not being able to download Japanese TV shows.
