Problem the First: Poor aim.
Problem the Second: I don't want to keep cleaning water off my counter tops
Problem the Third: Apparently, my cats really aren't all that vexed by water.
Someone finally recommended compressed air. They added that the air sounds like a hiss. I have found that my cats are farm more trainable with the compressed air. I don't even have to fire it off now. I merely have to grab the can, and Sascha the rogue high tails it to lower ground.
Also I recognize that ultimately the cats need high spaces to watch their humans. I'll be looking into some high, cat friendly furnishings like shelves and cat trees in the area's I hang out in, so they can watch from the preferred angle.

I wanted a cat in the past, since they're easier to take care of than dogs, but my family doesn't like cats and we ended up getting a dog instead - a Shiba Inu, which we named Toshi. He's like a cat and ignores me half the time.

I really don't understand people who don't like cats, but then, I don't like dogs (and dog people probably don't understand me!). I prefer a cat's aloofness to a dog's grovelling independence. Sounds like you lucked out on a dog that is independent -- and Shiba Inus are pretty cute!
