Let's run down the weekend:

stinabat came up on Friday to visit and stay with us during a convention. Unfortunately, she got turned around by the Dallas roads and ended up calling twice for guidance. I had a heatsink "fail" on me once but what actually happened is that dust clogged all the tines of it. I replaced it, and months later was looking at the old one and thought to hit it with a can of compressed air. FOOOSH! This huge cloud of dust came out and dropped onto the kitchen floor; it was a pile of dust the size of a salad plate.

So, you might consider checking your old heatsink for buildup, and if it has any, occasionally (and carefully) blow compressed air through the new heatsink while the pc's off and resting.

It's not an "old" heatsink in this case. It came with the new processor. There's apparently a problem with some of the sinks that ship with the new Core 2 Duo processors Intel has been putting out. Since I needed a machine by Monday at the latest, I just decided to go pick up an aftermarket sink and be done with it.

Heh, actually I was told there was a problem with the Athlon XP heatsinks at the time I had my problem but no, it was really just dust. XD

unfortunately my sisters graduate the week before and I'm not allowed to take two weeks off of work in a row *sad*.

But I'll be in Dallas May 19-28 and possibly for LazyDragonCon in the very beginning of August. We should catch up!

It was nice to see you, too! Hopefully we'll be visiting Austin again soon and we can hang out.
