wow this guide is amazing, I loved reading about the creative process behind your compositions. ugh this made me realize that whenever I try that storytelling thing it's totally 100% like those 'obvious storytelling' examples here lmao I really have to try to be more creative in the future... at some point... it's scary though, I already stress so much about my complex icons looking 'random', if the viewer doesn't get what I was trying to say with it - do you ever worry about that? Or do you usually explain the more conceptual icons in the actual text of the icon post, or do you just trust that those who know the fandom will get it
( ... )
aww, thanks! but yeah, i only seem to get conceptual when i'm given prompts or themes. the rest of the time, I'm content to be ~obvious so...no pressure lol
i do worry about it! i constantly have this compulsion to explain myself since i know that my intentions sometimes don't end up in the finished product. but that sort of comes with every sort of "artistic" endeavour and you just have to move on and continue to develop your skills until you become better at communicating your ideas. i also know that i have a tendency to overthink things so other times i'm just happy if someone goes "oh, pretty!" and never mind if they get it haha
oh yes, it is frustrating when i'm struck with inspiration and i can't find the perfect stock/texture/image. i use mostly google for speed but sometimes it also depends on what kind of image i need. the digitized vintage books on archive.org are awesome but it takes even more time to browse through them. you just cross your fingers and hope you get lucky ^_^
