When I was at the Smith's party, I came across a box that had old newspapers and other similar things, but got killed before I could see what they were. How many people here have experience sneaking into places to retrieve information? It has to be important to kill a person over, right?

That doesn't make everything pointless. Several of the killings and injuries were also tied to upsetting Lucy, which seems less than random as well.

I can pick locks, and my cheagle can slip in and out of tiny spaces. If nothing else, it can get in and pick up the papers by itself.

It's a small animal, not unlike a rabbit. Intelligent; they understand human speech and complicated concepts, though they can't talk back without assistance.
