Cabin Fever

The first full workweek of the year begins with no resolution in the month-old bus strike in sight. My range of movement is effectively reduced to walking distance ... and getting to work is a brisk 3 hour walk in the summer. I've got some team members travelling a lot to Quebec as I'm leading up a project there. Even with video/audio chat and IMing, it's tough to telework as it is isolating. Best wishes as always.

What do you mean twilight of your current career???
Sounds to me like you have chosen a side.
I still feel it is about the contract. The intense local media focus and our own emotions can lead one to think other wise.
That said I too want/need the strike to end.
Even though I can drive, parking downtown has added roughly $450 / month of expense to our budget and additional wear and tear on our vehicle.

I strongly doubt my current job will last the year even if my employer survives intact. That could be a long conversation and a frustrating one for any poor listener who just wants to shake some sense into me :)

Yes, I have picked a side in the strike I sympathize with, but even so that just makes me a pawn successfully played in this whole drama, so I try (and sometimes fail) to confine myself to just expressing frustration, not openly supporting a side.
