And for my first return post, Pee

Frito is still alive. He is oldykins. He's gotta be, like, 15 or 16 or 17. He is starting to look old & seem old & to "slow down" somewhat. He is not the sassyhead that he once was. He is slower and gentler and just wants somebody to sit on the couch with him ( Read more... )

do you have an open, easy to get into box? Trouble's peeing issues have been at bay for over a yr now. He was sentenced outdoors last summer, but was returned. After we turned our spare bathroom into a dedicated kittybox room it fixed trouble's inappropriate pee probs. He does poop next to the box when he decides it's not apprpriately empty enough.

Thoughts from my past kitty experiences...

1) Have you taken him to the vet? Neutered males can get crystals in their urine, which block them up and make it painful to pee (and sometimes they get blocked up entirely). That could be a problem.

2) He could be getting arthritic. Change the type of box to something with a lowered access instead of something he has to jump into. Change the type of litter to something soft & sandy rather than hard crystals or pellets. My kitty Little Girl peed/pooped outside of her box for YEARS until I had a brainchild and changed to soft, sandy litter. She started using the box immediately.

I saw ye olde Frito and petted him a bit when Larry and Clay and I went to your house after the chicken wing restaurant. I didn't notice any pee stains anywhere though!

It's my own fault. You posted a request for LJ topics, and like a fool I figured I'd let you wing it. I realize now I should have told you what NOT to write about, this being one of them. Live and learn.
