Advertising exists for the purpose of convincing you to buy stuff. A tenet of classic visual advertisment was to show you images of happy, beautiful people using said stuff, as a way of planting the idea into your subconcious that if you buy whatever the hell it is they're trying to sell, you will be happy and beautiful too.
