They might be incompetent, confused, or both.

I think I get around 200 a day on my domain name 'accounts' (like webmaster@ and sales@, etc) but even that number would only achieve about 6,000 per month.

I would guess that spammers just 'guess' common names at domains they find, and kim@ is probably one of the standard guesses, since they like to use girls' names to entice lonley nerds to open their viagra spam or whatever.
