Our FiOS HD-DVR remote has a skip button built in, don't know about the standard DVR.

That's good! A few years back, it was looking like no manufacturers wanted to do that because they were afraid of getting sued, for making it too easy to skip commercials. I figure that's why mine has a secret code instead of a regular button.
