The interesting thing about this 'issue' is that the Chinese don't have the capability to do much more to Taiwan other than reduce it to ashes. That is, they could not take it over by conventional military means. They have almost no force projection capability and would have to rely on civilian transport ships to attempt an invasion. Even if the U.S. decided to opt out (which they can't by treaty), the outcome would be far from certain and I would personally put my $$ on Taiwan. I worked in Foreign Military Sales for a few years - specifically with Taiwan - and they have a very professional, dedicated, and capable military and they really only train with one goal in mind: preventing a Chinese invasion.

Absolutely...I commented in kitiara-land earlier my feeling that perhaps the best thing for this situation would be for it to come to a head, leading to war. I'd like to see just how many of the 1.3 billion that are supposedly resolutely behind the PRC react to that situation (or maybe I wouldn't...ugh)...

I still want to know where the public outcry against the evil, warmongering Chinese is at...but, c'est la vie.
