I made one of those Johari meme things where you have to say what you think of me. Go do it if you want.

=====

I don't really have much to say about my life - had a nothing day. But here are some interesting newspaper articles:

The world is warmer than it has been for 1200 years - I was reading John Ralston Saul's The Collapse Of Globalism, and ( Read more... )

Venus On The Half-Shell is not by Vonnegut, but by Philip Jose Farmer. I have it on my unread-books shelf (which is full to sagging) and your mention may bring it up a few levels in the pile ;)
Vonnegut's best stuff is among my favourite fiction ever - but he does have a tendency towards a kind of "one-liner wisdom", which can get a little irritating. While he didn't write the insipid and suicide-inspiring "Sunscreen Song", these days it feels like he almost could've.
I think he's going a bit soft & stupid in his old age, but I may be wrong. It's not that I'm not about as far left as he is, but... I dunno. For instance he was recently coming out in favour of Intelligent Design on NPR - see this post from one of my favourite militant atheist bloggers (*grin*)

Not (having read the interview) that I'm terribly likely to defend terrorists either... I might defend there cause (depending whether "dismantling the state of Israel" is part of it), but blowing up innocent people along with yourself? I don't think so...

In regards to Venus In The Half-Shell, it's hilarious. Some great lines, and it's amusing to see Farmer do a pastiche of Vonnegut doing a pastiche of Theodore Sturgeon. (It is very obviously Farmer, judging by the book's obsession with sex).
