Bologna.

Sep 02, 2006 16:45

Okay, so I've been back from Bologna since Tuesday. I spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday as a "space cadet" - jetlag hit me pretty hard on the way back, though I didn't really feel it on the way there. But anyway! Bologna was a wonderful experience.

There are pictures and random bits and pieces behind the cut.

This is a livejournal cut. )

Ross Noble does a bit about how Deep Vein Thrombosis sounds like the name of an old jazz musician. I can't read/hear it without thinking of him saying it in his old, black jazz musician voice.

Elephants > Humans

Deep Vein Thrombosis? hehehe. Yeah, I can hear that too. Elephants are pretty cool.

They could be bullet marks I guess. I remember in Berlin it was really scary walking around museums and other normal places, and there would be bullet holes in all the marble and concrete that wasn't totally destroyed.

Jetlag almost always hits on the way back, and rarely on the way there.

Yeah, that's what everyone says about jetlag. I wonder why it works that way?

I guess we're lucky in Australia that we've never had quite so violent a history (at least, us whities haven't really).

awesome photos! welcome back :)

that always seems to be the way with jetlag - odd but it's better that it happens now than when you're in a strange place, right?

oh yeah i was worried about dvt on my way back too, even went to a very nice doctor at singapore airport. it ended up being tendonitis.

eep, tendonitis still kind of sucks!

but yeah, definitely better that jetlag is happening now rather than in the strange place. own bed is the best place to recover in.

Elephants can play drums?! That's so awesome!

Welcome back!

The story is that in Thailand, elephants used to be used to haul logs out of forests. A few years ago logging was banned in Thailand, and so there were a bunch of elephants which were no longer needed, and which were put in a sanctuary. At the sanctuary, one of the elephants was very interested in the music that a couple of the workers there were listening to, and so they got it a couple of drums and kind of showed it how to hit the drums, and it figured out the rest itself, apparently!
