I guess my question is as to if I'm really seeing the American experiment close to failure, or if I'm feeling the feelings of most previous generations that "things are getting worse and can only lead to collapse."
It is my understanding that during the beginning of the colonial era most "normal" people thought the world was moving too fast and that it was going to spin off its hinges.
And I admit that its tough for me to judge America against history, because in many cases empires crumbled over time, and yet when they're talked about its as if it happened very quickly.
*shrug* I have the same feeling that I did in the late 90's: I feel like something big is building and coming, but if thats my own imagination or not I don't know.

Almost all societies enter an empire phase, usually right before they fall. When your arrogance gets the best of you, it's the only thing that's left.
