Ok, I've said this to about half a dozen people now, and they all profess absolute shock at this existence of a sub-genre of fanfic that's not limited to one fandom. NONE OF THEM BELIEVED ME.

A while ago I came a cross a Bible slash paperback about David and Jonathan. In it, it was the same old yadda wadda but Jonathan was reticent for a rather odd reason - you guessed it. Wings.

I don't recall it well as I was rather laughing about it, lol, but David and Jonathan took to the sky and it was when jonathan showed his wings he died.

Short answer: mating flight and Jonathan died.

IIRC - the pub date was in the sixties. If I can troll it up I will link.
