Wow. That's a comprehensive rereading...

Largely, when I reread vol 10, I notice just how much Gaara was hyped up as a juggernaut. And that Kakashi's something of an asshole. Pay attention to his words to Gai about giving a mere genin access to such powerful techniques as the Gates. Sound familiar? It's the sound of hypocrisy in the making. XD

You also see how personally Naruto takes Kakashi teaching Sasuke one-on-one while getting pushed off onto Ebisu. While Ebisu's databook stats are okay for an instructor, I have no idea what the hell Ebisu could've schooled Naruto in that would help in his fight against Neji. Then again... Ebisu knew that Naruto had the kage bunshin technique and may have helped him explore its full potential much, much earlier in the series. Although, without the Fourth's seal unblocked, Gaara would've killed them all, so it's a moot point unless Jiraiya arrived later in the training ( ... )

Yeah! I was reading that and going... Kakashi, stop. You're going to eat those words later and regret you ever uttered them or judged anyone about them. I mean, sure Lee tried to kill himself to beat Gaara, but at least Gai's student didn't betray a village and attempt to kill .. oh, his own teammate with the forbidden/high-level jutsu his teacher taught him IN SECRET! And at least while Gai did it on his off-time, he didn't, oh, I don't know, ABANDON THE REST OF HIS TEAM to do it.

I am still, slightly bitter about it. Volume 11, when I do my review of it, will probably show this -_-;;

Seriously. Not only chastised Gai pre-Sasuke training. Chastised Jiraiya after Sasuke pulled out Chidori during the fight! I will be the first to admit that Naruto pulled out the Rasengan before the Chidori... but Sasuke also covered the entire rooftop in fire before that. Rasengan does have a non-lethal application as Jiraiya showed in its first appearance. Chidori... is an assassination technique for killing people dead and not alive kthxbye! (Speaking of which, someone seems to have neglected Sasuke's education regarding "vital" attack points... if you put a whole the size of your fist through someone, even if it's not the heart, they will probably DIE OF SHOCK OR BLEED TO DEATH YOU RETARD.

And at least while Gai did it on his off-time

The way I interpreted the training flashback was that Gai attempted to teach it to ALL his students, but Lee was the only one who could open the gates at that time. So, ZERO neglect from Gai and I'm not even sure there's favoritism with Lee. Yeah, Lee's his protege, but Gai' ( ... )

Speaking of Jiraiya, I also really liked his introduction. He's perhaps my favorite adult in the series. I was a touch disappointed that Kakashi ended up being the one to help Naruto on to his "ultimate technique" when I thought Jiraiya was a much better fit personality-wise.Probably because despite everything, Jiraya is the one who is the least messed up of all the adults and he, at least, gave up on a bad thing - Orochimaru. I'm waiting for a reaction still concerning Oro's death, but Kishimoto hasn't really even shown Sakura's usefulness too much after her sudden growth, and as you point it out, practically nil in the training department for Naruto, so I'm not holding my breath on the finer details. You could always write about it though ;) But, Jiraya's pretty good right now because he's kind of wiped his hands of a lot of the responsibilities in the Village and he does take what he does promise with urr... well... the degree of maturity that he has... small as it is - thinks back to how we meet up with Naruto again in the 2nd ( ... )
