I'm not sure. I know there were a couple of drives for other sites, ATP and the mirror Queer Eyes site. I think there was money donated for BJF, but again, not sure.
It's the principle of the thing, though. I know for a fact that several people offered to take over the site, and rather than let it languish, it should have been turned over.
I think people did donate money to Cael. Every so often the question of 'when is bjfic.net coming back' pops up and Cael, last I heard, said it would be soon.
Reminds me when Brian said to Justin at the bar "I thought you two would be together forever" and Justin responds, "Yeah, well forever is a lot shorter than it use to be" - or something like that.
In the case of bjfic.net - sooner is a lot longer than it use to be.
I too have heard people offer to take the site over, but she won't let it go for some reason. It's been a long time since anyone has heard from her. I hope she's alright. Elsa Rose might know, I'll ask her.
But yeah, I agree. Enough is enough. I read my very first BJ fiction over at that site. There were treasures there that cannot be replaced. All my stories were there too. It was home for me. I miss it. She should give it over to someone who'll bring it back.
I read my first fic there as well. I think a lot of people that came to fandom when I did, or around that time (S5), probably read their first QAF fics there, too.
It's just sad. As I said, and as you did, there are a lot of stories there that aren't archived anywhere else. There are a few writers that lost fics on their harddrives that can't access them because BJF is the only place they posted them.
Sorry my rather serious illness has interfered with your fanfic enjoyment.
Inasmuch as I just re-uped the domain name, it gets back in a while. Which, whinging aside, happens as it will. And since you knew what was going to happen two years ago, you might have warned me about the health thing.

I'm aware that illness happens, and really, while I am honestly sorry your were sick, there is no need to use it to be a smartass. Many people get sick, many people have serious illnesses. As this seems to be an ongoing thing, it seems to me that you'd want to have the site off your hands so as not to interfere with your healing, which is certainly more important.
However, LAST August, I believe it was, you posted and talked about all these things that needed to happen in order to restore the site. Why not turn it over then?

Makes me wonder if you could be turned over to your local attorney general for fraud since you've accepted donations to hell with the site and never quite manage to get it up and running. We do, however, get a lot of bullshit for why it's not up and running. My god, this has been going on for years. As the saying goes: Either shit or get off the pot.
Yeah, that also used to be my fave site to find B/J-fic. Too bad it's not running anymore. The others (MidnightWhipers for example) just aren't the same. The fics on that site just aren't as good. Could be because the old fiction was much better written, idunno, it just seems that way to me. Let's hope the fiction is saved/archived somewhere, so when the site comes back, all fiction will be back.
Yeah, not holding my breath on that one. JFC, again, how about a date? Better yet, cough up the site. There are plenty of people with actual experience in running a site. Since you're unable to handle it, give it to someone who can.
Personally, and yeah, I'm going there, I think you've either lost the fic files, or you're holding onto it as some sort of power play. Which in my opinion is a shitty thing to do. What, are you sitting at home, giggling as you dangle the promise of the site returning in people's faces thinking "Hahaha, look at the puppets dance??"
I too have been watching this for over two years and it seems ridiculous that it has gone on this long. I agree with what someone else said- if you are ill then make serious arrangements for someone to take over the site(and costs) and concentrate on healing yourself.
Here's a simple solution for the existing archive. This is from the FAQ section of the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW)
I run an archive I'd like to import/back up to the Archive of Our Own. What do I need to do? in
Archive of Our Own
Contact Open Doors for access to the archive importer. Please let us know from the outset if you have special needs - for example, if you'd like us to take over maintenance of the old domain, or if your archive contains multimedia content.
Here is the link that will lead you to the details.
You would incur no further expense and the bjficnet archive would be preserved. There is already an existing archive for QAF there and writers could have access to their lost works and I would imagine be able to add to them if they so desire.
Then you can concentrate on getting well with something that must be causing you stress dealt with properly.
I hate when fics disappear without a trace when there are simple ways now to avoid it.
I donate to the OTW whenever I can because they believe in preserving fanfic archives and protecting the fanfic writers from lawyers and copyright bullshit as strongly as I do.
bjficnet was history soon after I joined the fandom in 2008 so I never had a chance to miss it, but judging by all the folks who still pine for it, I would think that the only thing that is really important is to get the content back online.
Here is an option with no cost...no needless drama.
I didn't know about the OTW. So thanks for that, and they certainly deserve all the help they can get.
You know how sites that use eFiction software? They have that Top Ten thing you can check out. I remember BJFic back in the day had a Fic Of The Month feature. That's where I found Crisis, Everything At Once and a few others. I remember reading every fic with that tag on it. Ir's just too bad that newer fans will and have missed out on this.
