I've just been there! =D

Depends on whether you are looking for a hotel or a hostel. I had made a long list of hostels there, but I recently threw out all my papers. The one I staid at was very cheap, but it was very simple and there was nothing fun to do in the hostel itself, only sleep. I know there's a few on boats on the south side of town, like the Red Boat, but I don't know about prices. The first hostel I tried, City Backpackers Hostel was full. My tip: book in advance. There's a lot of booking sites you can see how much it costs and if they still have room!

Actually, typing "hostels, Stockholm" (or Hotels if you like) can be quite helpful. It gives a nice list. For your orientation: Gamla Stan, the island in the middle is the old town, the touristy bit.

The south side is the cool people's town, though you need to know where to go. (see my Stockholm posts). Make sure you go to SoFo, a district in the South part of town. It's filled with awesome comic stores, record stores, second hand clothing stores and quite a few good ( ... )
