And I don't like it at all. The lyrics sound like she literally sat down and was like this songs going to be about crystals and this ones going to be about tectonic plates. Its like shes using a bunch of metaphors that don't mean anything. I would be more forgiving but even the production sounds like crap, and I hate how there isn't much song ( Read more... )

I like the new songs from Biophilia so far. I generally really like the poetry/lyrics she chooses. I'm a big fan of Sjon and E.E. Cummings, but now I like the new poetry by Oddny Eir Avarsdöttir in Thunderbolt. My favorite so far are Virus, Cosmogony and Solstice, but I think the others will grow on me. But I do agree that some of the songs, like Moon, for example, sound a little too sparse, like app music. Kind of bummed she's sort of gone down that road of apps, because I don't have an ipad, but whatever... I wouldn't necessarily call her a sell-out or anything, though. I'm just slightly disappointed with that choice. Still, her voice is shining and gorgeous and clear as an angel. As for the nature themes, it had been building up to where she would probably end up doing something like this. A lot of her older songs have nature themes. So that's no real surprise, really. But it's still a nice nod to scientists. I'm surprised she didn't marry a scientist, actually ( ... )

Just listening again: Virus reminds me of I miss yo, and Mutual Core reminds me of Big time sensuality, as well. I think the more songs she does, the more they remind me of each other, kind of like siblings with similar dna.

I also think that as with her other albums, the live versions are the best. If the only version you've heard was the album version, give one of the the live versions a listen:

i still need to get my hands on a copy to make up my mind and listen to while enjoying a pleasant spring evening outside. i've heard parts on youtube and read stuff from users online. it's the first album i haven't been excited to go out and buy in more than a decade...
