I've been thinking about when the proper time would be to set a Wita. Right now we have a theod of eight; but I'm thinking that we need a minimum of 13-16 folks. At least 3-4 folks per Wita... it just doesn't seem right with any less than that. There's also my belief that I don't know if a Carl should sit on a Wita and I'm not going to 'rush' ( Read more... )

*sigh* Motorcycle run. To Big Bend. Camping. Still being in the same state after two hours of driving. I miss Texas. Glad to hear you are entertaining yourselves down there!

Howdy Patty,

"Regarding a wita as opposed to the size of the theod - why were you waiting?"

It's a poor analogy, but would you set a High Rede of 3 people in place when the group numbered only 8? Right now there is no need as I see it; we currently meet in person at least twice a month and have ample opportunity to discuss things. While we're not quite a consensus... we are pretty damn close.

As to a requirement, there is none. Sure there are examples of a witan or witenagemot... but it is by no means a universal component of Germanic tribalism or lordship.

I'm waiting because I can afford to, and because I'm still thinking on a few points of minutiae. Writing it out helps direct and archive my thoughts. :)
