An Intel 8080 with 1k of RAM, running at 2MHz, (but taking four clock cycles to execute an instruction vs the AVR's one) So, yours has twice the memory and is 40x faster!
I'm amused that you're forward-thinking enough to vastly overproviion the hardware of your devices, but not to just put together a few extra boxes while you're already making the half dozen, because, hey, you might lose or break one, or get some more instructors...
It's all about saving time! Why would I want to spend 1/3 more time and money when I could make precisely what I needed? The chances of one getting lost or broken are pretty minimal. And since it was such a simple design, I was able to make the last 2 units nice and quick!
Minimization of effort. I am a lazy engineer. I spent the minimum possible effort to get precisely what I needed last year, and did the same to be ready for this year!
The fact that it was all last-minute has nothing to do with it. At all. I'm sure.
Aye. If I went I would want to be in the classes track, and i didn't want to commit that far out. Given that I've just been away 11 days and am going away for a week two weeks hence and there is RKO on sat it works out ;)
