Well, that sure felt good...

I've been hammered at work lately. (Lots of work to do, I'm not drinking on the job!) When I joined the team nearly three years ago I was the junior member of 6 people. Now, I'm the only one who is left on my contract, and my former boss is able to help me out a little, but mainly I'm now doing nearly *everything* for half of the computer systems ( Read more... )

I understand about the admiration despite the non-"perfect" body for the sport of choice. Rolled well last night and got told by some of the folks who have been doing it for six+ more months then me that they are going to be hurting once I get the BJJ technique down with the strength and endurance that I have.

And I don't know that I could do the platter flip - may have to try, I need a better grip strength. I may buy one of those grip strengtheners just so I can take it with me everywhere.

My first attempt at the platter flip was with a 10# and it was nearly impossible to catch, but a 15# was much easier: the edge on the 15# has a lip you can wrap your fingers around, the 10# has none.

As for the grip strengthener, very cool. Thinking of one of the one with springs for each finger, or the beanbag-in-a-balloon type ones? I favor the balloons, they make it real easy to target different parts of your hand/fingers/grip every squeeze if you want, without having to shift your grip at all, and I never find myself wanting to do sets with those things, just fiddle around with them. And... Ever see the movie The Big Hit? Those spring-based grip trainers always make me think of it...

Probably just getting one the standard spring loaded ones as what care about isn't as dynamic as what you are doing, I just need a better grip for my pull ups and related exercises/training.
