The Continued Deconstruction of Doctor Strange

Why is this actually happening? Can nobody think of what to do with him? He's not been a good guy for the longest of times now. He's skirting around the edges of being a proper anti-hero, and heading directly for the lands of the villain. Which is desperately annoying. I know he's never been the biggest and bestest hero ever but, god, this ( Read more... )

I think Marvel realised that if they wanted Dr. Strange to be a regular, then they needed to depower him.

The problem is that they've mishandled it in most cases, though the recent Strange mini-series was very good I thought.

I think it is time for Dr. Doom to take on the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme.

I don't think it is magic characters so much, more that they become too powerful.

Look how they depower the Juggernaut every time he is on a team. They have to or he could beat 99.9% of the foes by himself.

So happened with Dr. Strange, as soon as you have him on a team you either have to drop his power level or come up with increasingly stupid reasons as to why he didn't solve the situation with one spell.

That's a problem Marvel has had with Dr. Strange ever since the Lee/Ditko days. You've had Strange throughly whooped by Dormmamu or Baron Mordo at the end of one issue and then at the beginning of the next he'd either remember a "forbidden spell" or The Ancient One would lend him some extra energy he just happened to have lying around.

That's why I've never been a fan of Dr. Strange, The Hulk and The Sub-Mariner being regular members of The Defenders. On their own, the three of them are heavyweight powerhouses. Once you put them together they can beat the ass of just about anybody this side of Galactus. The three of them should only get together when the end of the world is at stake and there's nobody else around to stop it. Until then, Nighthawk, Hellcat, Valkyrie and whoever is is hanging around can be Defenders.

You knew it had to happen. If you have a mustache of any kind, it is only a matter of time before you prove to be evil.

How did Jericho Drumm die?
