On Dreams from My Father:
So far, Obama has made me cry in the Preface (pathos), for goodness' sake!  He has referenced Faulker (ethos).  He's been pretty damn humble (pathos).  And he's a good writer.  His voice feels soft and strong in the same way Jhumpa Lahiri's does (and you know she my girl!).  He did open with a quote from the Bible, the Book ( Read more... )

Barak Obama's Dreams from My Father (2004) will be the first that I read in my close reading of the candidates madness.  It was the first one I found on the dusty shelves of Stone Soup's library.  This paperback copy that I will be reading is water-warped and dog-eared.  Someone loved and left it, and now I've got it.  For now.
