Oh, The Martian is one of my favorite books! I like it when NASA keeps telling him not to swear and he promptly keeps doing so. :)

I'm less thrilled about casting Matt Damon as Mark, which I think is totally wrong...

Something to do with the need for Watney to be an irrepressible wiseass in the face of near-certain doom? :)

I'll admit, Damon wouldn't be my first choice. Of course, it could be that he decided he wanted to play the role. And who knows? He might do a good job of it.

Still, there's stuff I can't wait to see filmed. Like the thumbs-up. The hand glued to the helmet. The dance of joy at Ares 4.

Oh yes, so many things I'm hoping they put on film. I think my worry is that the combination of Matt Damon and Ridley Scott will cause the goofy joy of Mark to go away, when that's the best part. Still, we must remain optimistic, you're right. :)
