I've done this before and I posted it on soompi, but I'll bring it over to livejournal with some other additional info and some corrections (:

Names are not just names. They have a meaning. Every name has a meaning.
So what do Super Junior's members' names mean?

How come Ryeowook's Chinese name is Li Xu? Li makes sense, but Xu? That's prounounced "shhhhh" and Ryeowook's name is pronounced Rio Wook. How does Wook sound like Xu?

Check out the Cantonese romanization. It's more similar, isn't it?

Before the Koreans invented their own writing system, they used the Chinese writing system. And since Chinese isn't an alphabet, the words translated do not necessarily have to sound similar. It's about meaning.
