The TTC issue really pisses me off. I think unions are slowly destroying the Canadian economy. They inflate wages and production costs to levels that cannot be sustained. Then to compete for the necessary human resources, other companies are forced to increase their wage rates and compensate by raising prices. Inflation takes hold and the ones that ( Read more... )

That $50K isn't surprising. Admin. Assistants at University Health Network (Princess Margret, Toronto General, and Toronto Western Hospitals) make about the same. They're in a union as well.

Also, there are laws that prevent against this. They're probably going to be ordered back to work tomorrow. But, I mean, what's the point of having unions at all if they aren't actionable?

to have fairness across a job so that it's not based on your personal negotiation skills with the HR person leaving some people making 42K and some 50K with 6 weeks vacation.

I just think that in trying to get the best for a group of employees, the union leaders are forgetting that they need to work with the company not slowly bleed it out with every collective bargaining session.
