Real Life Meme

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Was given staff management responsibility. Not as fun as it sounds

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make proper resolutions, except in 'wanting a new job' and 'writing more'. This year I will submit more short stories (which will involve writing more short stories).

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Just England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A completed novel (just like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that).

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Either the call when I got my new job, or the day when everything in the world broke at work and I realised that I was in charge of this fiasco. Good times.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Still getting the new job, even so.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting the job I applied for first, and failing at my very modest wordcount for the year.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Lots of colds, nothing bad.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Pop Vinyl bobble-head Thor. No regrets. Oh, also the Avengers bluray.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Honestly, not a good year. My friends are still awesome though. My poor staff are better at dealing with crisis than they should have any need to be.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
The people in the land of my birth deciding that we were back to the times of setting things on fire over flags. Footballers and racism again.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The Avengers. At least I amused my colleagues, who had to put up with me getting progressively more unbearable as March and April progressed.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
Chip On My Shoulder, which is from the Legally Blonde soundtrack. That's what I spent the last day before my job interview listening to, as I was also dealing with the new system install and had no time to either prepare or sleep. And it worked!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you...
...happier or sadder: sadder
...thinner or fatter: fatter, maybe?
...richer or poorer: slightly richer (new job is slightly better paid)

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Wrote.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sleeping through my days off.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
At home with my family. We watched Doctor Who, for lo we are predictable.

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Nope.

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
The Unusuals? (It doesn't say a new program, does it?)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
My hate is mostly aimed at inanimate objects. Also politicians, but that was not new.

26. What was the best book you read?
Homeward Bounders - Diana Wynne Jones. Sad as all get out though.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dessa!

28. What did you want and get?
New job. Be careful what you wish for.

29. What did you want and not get?
Another new job? A working system at work!

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
The Avengers

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was at home with my family. We went to see the Muppets. Brother3 and I watched a lot of Fringe as well. All good.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not completely failing NaNo.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
I started wearing more dresses, mostly over trousers or leggings. Almost a grown up.

34. What kept you sane?
... I read a lot of Teen Wolf fic, considering I haven't seen any. And a lot of Hockey RPF, considering I have never seen a full game.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jeremy Renner. To the surprise of no one.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Here, cuts, again. I was alarmed by the prospect of a Romney win in the US.

37. Who did you miss?
Everybody I don't work with. (I like the people I work with. But I see them and no one else.)

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I'm not convinced I met anyone new this year (again, apart from the aforementioned work people, and as I hired them, I'm not sure they count.)

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
That it is in fact possible to live as if the sky is falling for six months straight, but you will not be sane by the end of it. Getting to the 'so stop caring about the damned sky' point is next year's task.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Let's go with something from Legally Blonde, even if I can't keep the message in my head...

I've been smiling and sweet and thoroughly beaten,
Blowing my chance.
Let's not chase him away,
Let's face him and say,
Hey punk, let's dance!
This chip on my shoulder,
Makes me smarter and bolder.
No more whining or blaming,
I am reclaiming my pride.

Fandom meme

1. Your main fandom of the year?
The Avengers. By a long long way.

2. Your favourite film watched this year?
Also The Avengers. I'm not sure that it was the best film I saw, but there was nothing I enjoyed more or had a stronger reaction to.

3. Your favourite book read this year?
I have been working my way through Diana Wynne Jones books I haven't read, and Homeward Bounders was great and devastating. I have also been reading through scifi classics I haven't read, and enjoyed Starmaker (Olaf Stapledon) far more than I was expecting.

4. Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Dessa - A Badly Broken Code. Yet more proof that fandom encourages people to buy things, even when the initial entry point is free. Now, if only someone would vid Lost Girl to Dutch ("and it's just not true I'm a maneater / all the same, we should probably go Dutch") my joy would be complete.

5. Your favourite TV show of the year?
That I watched this year, The Unusuals. That was actually airing this year, Person of Interest or Gravity Falls. Or Lost Girl. It is never exactly a bad year for me and television.

6. Your favourite LJ community of the year?
Look, if I can get LJ working long enough to read anything these days, we're going well. Anyone want to rec me a Dreamwidth community?

7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Avengers wasn't new, and none of the other new things are fandoms I'm in. Still feeling a bit out of the fannish groove.

8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Doctor Who left me a bit flat, though I'm not sure disappointment is quite the right word.

9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Finch, Person of Interest. Or Dyson in Lost Girl, if for no other reason than the pulling underwear down with his teeth thing. I can be shallow with the best of them.

10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Kenzi, Lost Girl. Wigs and snark, who could ask for more?

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Either one of the trailers for the Avengers (assuming the Hulk catching Tony one was this year, then that one, otherwise the Hawkeye jumping backwards off a building one) or indeed The Avengers itself. Directed by Joss Whedon.

12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
I haven't seen any of this season's Fringe, which I suspect is partially because I don't want to be in the last season, partially because I fear awful things will happen, and partially because I miss watching it with other people.

13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Brother2 keeps reccing me Parks and Recreation, and he is rarely wrong. I have bought Teen Wolf S1 and still haven't watched it.

14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
SHIELD. S.H.I.E.L.D. New Whedon TV. Superheroes on my TV. Marvel have not habitually done so well with TV, but this is exciting.
