Head scarf newbie

I'm pretty new to the whole taking care of my own hair thing and I was wondering what are all the different techniques for wearing a scarf at night. Basically, what I want to know is, is it alright to wear a scarf without all that wrapping of the hair around your head? And if so, how do you do it?

I fail at wrapping my hair at night especially since you're suppose to use silk/satin which just falls off me so I have a satin bonnet that I bought from walmart for like 3 bucks. I just put it on & it protects my hair from my cotton pillow cases

With a bonnet there's no need to wrap the hair all around your head?

No because the bonnet would be too lose & would make the wrapped hair fall down anyways unless you used bobby pins or something

I don't wrap my hair. I moisturize, then pin it up at night.
