You could try finger coils - they may make your hair easier to lay flat under a scarf so it'll stay put under the hat. (The only thing is that they can be reaaallly time consuming - I left mine in for like a week so they'd be worth it)
Or perhaps flat twists or cornrows, since they are low-fuss and easy to fit under things.
I would say that you could two strand your hair. . . This style should last for a week or more. . . This will hold in moisture . . but the style take about two-four hours when you are first starting to do them. . .

You can do the Green House Effect and wear a plastic cap under your cook's hat or you can wrap your hair with a silk scarf
