Hyperpigmentation

Feb 15, 2012 17:10

Acne is not a huge issue for me per se, but I do have some dark spots on my face that I wouldn't mind removing.
Should I invest in Proactiv (with the dark spot corrector as my free gift), Clinique's Even Better Skin Corrector, or something else?

Use this post to discuss your skin concerns/solutions too!

Clinique Even Better Skin Corrector is really great. It cleared up a lot of acne scars I had on my chin and now you can't even see them.

I believe it, but one container of that thing is 2 months of proactiv's system. :P

With African American skin I highly recommend seeing a dermatologist first. It will save you time and money since it's been my experience that a lot of the things on the market simply do not work for AA skin. I haven't tried Proactiv, but clinique never worked for me. if you can find a dermatologist who specializes in ethnic skin, it's a bit better. I've heard that a paste of pineapple juice and tumeric is good for under eye circles, but I've never tried it. Honestly for me undereye circles only go away with lots of sleep and lots of water. However I do have some scarring from an illness and I can attest to a product called scarfade gel that noticeably help lessen the appearance of raised scar tissues.

That's the ideal solution, but on a broke college budget, I'm more inclined to try something and pray it works. Do you think scarfade would work for stretch marks?

I'm pretty broke myself. I am on a fixed income and only recently got insurance. If you don't have money to spend I would go natural. Cheap and easy often backfire. For one I would advise adjusting your skincare routine. Do you wash you face at least twice a day? Moisturize each time ( ... )

I can't honestly say I have a skincare routine. I wash with soap and water now and again. Seems to do well enough for keeping my pimples at bay, but for those that have been popped, their legacy remains. lol Vitamin E sounds like a viable solution. I might look into it.

Thank you for your advice. :D And for crushing my dreams about the stretch marks. lol

a make up person on youtube (makeupdoll or something like that)
said she tried the clinique and it broke her out, but had good results with the garnier spot corrector

i use natural means, which are slower, but natural!
zinc cream, golden seal powder, and exfoliation
saw a real improvement using a mechanical face brush. i have the skinsonic, only 50 bucks!
also, natural masks... butter milk with oatmeal
i use the body shops tea tree face wash and toner as well
ooo! and simply botanicals has a clear skin cream

...wow. I have no idea where I would find most of that, but I love your enthusiasm. The brush sounds like a great buy, too.

something else to add is african black soap. works really well
golden seal you can find at a natural food store, it's a vitamin.
you may have to get the capsules and break them open for the powder.
simply botanicals has a website
the zinc cream works really well, but not sure where to get it in the states.... perhaps ask a pharmacist?
you can make your own mask, get some butter milk from the store, grind up some oatmeal, mix them together, and go!
yesh on the brush. i wanted a clarisonic till i saw the price. plus the skinsonic has batteries!
it also uses the 'sonic' vibrations like the clarisonic, while i think the olay one just rotates.
shea butter and bio oil for stretch marks/scars

wooo ::wipes forehead::

lol. *fans you* I appreciate your tenacity.
You ladies are so knowledgeable about these skin and hair things. It's like talking to the older sisters I don't have.

I'm making a point of looking into facial brushes and stretch mark solutions. I'm intrigued by vitamin e, too.

I've experienced miracle recoveries with pure vitamin e rubbed on my skin. I have eczema and have had horrible and really dark scarring, and if I rub it a few times a day, it vanishes completely.

I like miracles. Where would you get pure vitamin e?

Any drug store usually. I think it's common to see it mixed with a random other oil, so I just mean the kind that's viscous and not mixed with anything.

I have adult, hormonal acne (I'm 35...c'mon now! Lol). I have tried EVERYTHING. Since June, I started on Epiduo (topical) and Aldactone (oral). I had awful initial breakouts. But since around September, I haven't seen a pimple or blackhead. The lack of acne is giving my skin a chance to fade the hyperpigmentation.

As far as facial cleansers/lotions, I LOVE Cerave. It doesn't lather, but it cleans well and removes makeup pretty well too. The lotion is great and doesn't clog my pores. At night, I use Cetaphil cream because I need something heavier at night.

Oh! Also, the Olay Spin Brush thingy is amazing too. It's only like $30 as opposed to the $300 Clarisonic.
