it looks like this happens more than you think, that is, really religious people crawling into dangerous animal exhibits at zoos and getting mauled/killed after declaring that God would protect them.

it'd be funny if they started doing that to cops. like, a crazy religious dude punches a cop in the face and just stands there saying "God will protect me from any punishment by lowly man!" And of course, then gets pummeled by billy clubs.

Except that the bible has passages about not invoking god to protect you like that, for 'tis vanity, and a number of other nasty things, yo. So, depends on the crazy religious tendancies. This guy clearly wasn't that good a study in sunday school. I think that was put in place by the obvious politico-religious hacks who wanted to keep normal folks from doing dangerous crap, but then be able to forget it every time religious nuts led poor young men to war.
