The only problem with this theory is that everything on television is inherently fake, at least to a degree, so saying that it exists only in someone's mind is a little redundant. I mean, maybe the fictional crossovers exist, and there is a common universe that writers use, but so what? It's pretty clear that all fictional TV exists in a fictional universe -- that is to say, a universe in which people really act the way people do on TV.

Wow this is pretty hilarious, and several I have shown this to agree. I particularly like the "rebuttals" section in the Wikipedia article.
