In-Character Information
Name : Hawke
Game/Series: Advance Wars 2, Advance Wars Dual Strike.
Age & Teaching Position: 26, Tactics and Strategy. Prepare for IRL RISK and STRATEGO and CAPTURE THE FLAG. I will try my darndest to not overlap with Battle Theory too much. Maybe put a more military focus on it.
Living Arrangements: Give this mofo a teacher’s dorm.
Personality: Hawke is a man of few words and even fewer facial expressions. Cold, calculating, and perhaps the only person that could out-ice queen Samus, he is emotionless, ruthless, and painfully down-to-earth. Victory? Good. Defeat? That’s fine too. Pack up and win tomorrow. Unless of course, you work under him and you suffer a loss. In that case you better get your ass in gear or he’s going to oust you and do it himself.
That being said, his military upbringing ensures that he’s very formal, but not out of politeness. He’s completely deadpan, humorless, condescending and doesn’t hesitate to look down his nose at you, especially if you haven’t proven yourself. And even then, he’s probably not going to think much of you. It’s difficult to prove oneself in his eyes and even harder to earn his respect. He is terse, blunt and will not hesitate to tell you exactly how shitty of a job you’re doing.
He’s not very good with people.
By nature, he is a plotter. Though he is a genius on the battlefield, Hawke also has a talent for biding his time, waiting for the tide to turn in his favor. He tends to be a bit passive, even sycophantic (read: ass-kisser) at times, though it’s hardly ever sincere. He does, however, follow his superiors faithfully…to an extent. If an opportunity comes for him to gain the upper hand, assert that he is the one that is really in control, he will take it without a thought, even if it means getting someone…out of the way. He prefers to work from behind the scenes, only stepping forward when it is convenient for his power-seeking agenda and has something to gain. Hawke is rather adept at looking out for number one alone.
He is fervently determined and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He will not hesitate to use people, manipulating them to his advantage and personal gain (Make my troops fight at the base of a volcano where they get just as injured as the enemy? Sure! Sorry Lash, I only dragged you with me and made you go traitor because I needed something to distract the Oozium! Lololol! Except Hawke never laughs. Ever.). Despite this however, he does, at times, exhibit a strange brand of morality in the sense that he knows how much is too much…and when the ends no longer justify the means. In other words, it’s fine for him to raze Green Earth because it asserts his military prowess and puts him in Sturm’s favor (and a step closer to commanding Black Hole), but Von Bolt using black obelisks to completely obliterate the environment for fun and profit is just not okay.
It’s times like these-when far too many are in danger (but mostly his own hide)--that he exhibits an odd pseudo-nobility and respect for life-as well as a tendency to be unexpectedly selfless and self-sacrificing. And believe it or not, he does care about…certain select people, most notably Lash. And he does have an appreciation and respect for Jake and a few of the other Wars World COs (NOT OLAF, SORRY). He’ll rarely show it…but he’s thankful for what they…especially Jake…have done for him.
In short, he’s a special brand of douche that has done a lot of terrible things. But maybe, just maybe…he’s okay.
He’s mostly a jerk.
Backstory: If one were to ask Hawke how he became involved with Black Hole, and if one was deemed worthy enough to get an answer, he would say he’s been with them for as long as he can remember.
The details of his personal life are a bit uncertain. What is certain, however, is the speed at which he advanced to his position as a high-ranking commanding in the Black Hole army. Hawke, with his ruthless efficiency and level headedness on the battlefield, had always been in Sturm’s favor. After the first failed attempt at conquering Wars World (by using a clone of Andy to turn the nations against each other…It didn’t work), quite a bit of shuffling and demotions occurred amongst the Black Hole officers as the army worked to rebuild itself anew. Hawke, who had served faithfully and skillfully, suddenly found himself as one of four head COs, second-in-command only to Sturm himself.
Hawke relished his new power, and soon after, a second invasion of Macro Land was launched, the COs ordered to split up. Hawke was assigned to invade Green Earth, and managed to put most of the country under his control.
Soon, however, the tide turned as the countries of Wars World allied once again to drive Black Hole out. Slowly but surely, Flak was ousted from Orange Star, Lash from Blue Moon, and Adder from Yellow Comet. Hawke knew that Green Earth would soon follow this example and work to remove him from their country…but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to go down without a fight.
Unfortunately, go down he did. The combined forces of Drake, Eagle, and Jess were altogether too much for Hawke’s sea fortress, and he was forced to retreat. And to add insult to injury, Yellow Comet soon arrived to aid Green Earth, destroying the powerful Black Cannons, and the four COs found themselves in a state of repair and on the defense, the opposition at their figurative doorstep.
The Allied Nations proved to be unstoppable despite Hawke’s best efforts, and the war culminated in one final face-off at the base of an active volcano. Eventually Hawke was forced to retreat to Black Hole HQ, where the Allied Nations COs destroyed Lash’s death ray and confronted Sturm himself. That’s where things started going a little wrong. Unable to handle defeat, the Black Hole leader swore to die and take everyone else with him. With Sturm about to obliterate them all, Hawke saw this as his chance. He unleashed his CO power on the Black Hole commander, killing him-and at the same time saving everyone else.
He proclaimed himself the new leader of Black Hole, escaping with the other COs and the remnants of his army, letting his opponents live, but promising that there would be a “next time”.
The months after that were spent lying in wait and licking metaphorical wounds as Hawke worked to restore Black Hole to its former glory. Unfortunately…he would never have that chance.
Seemingly out of nowhere, new COs arrived (called the Bolt Guard), under the orders of a certain Kindle, who told Hawke that the new leader of Black Hole had sent them to attempt a third invasion of the Allied Nations. Hawke was, understandably, bitter and taken aback. He was supposed to be the new leader of Black Hole, wasn’t he? Apparently not, and this new unseen commander (by the name of Von Bolt) began his work, functioning from the shadows to rebuild Black Hole more swiftly than ever before.
Ousted from his rightful position (but still allowed to keep CO status), Hawke went back to doing what he did best…biding his time. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t extremely suspicious of this new leader and his motives.
With the new Black Hole advancing on the Allied Nations, Hawke was, obviously, part of the war effort, but found himself growing increasingly frustrated. His position usurped, his abilities not put to good use, and Von Bolt refusing to explain his plans or even show himself (not to mention the fact that Kindle was a complete bitch), Hawke began to question the leadership of his nation to the only person he knew he could trust….Lash.
Growing sick of the “short leash” he’d been kept on, Hawke finally decided to confront Kindle about Black Hole’s new leadership. When she refused to answer any of his questions, Hawke took matters into his own hands and followed her to a supposedly secret meeting with Von Bolt. There, he first laid eyes on the man that had stolen his rightful position, as well as heard his plans to use something called a “Black Obelisk” to drain Omega Land of all its energy, turning it into a desert wasteland. That was just not cool.
Unfortunately, his presence was discovered, and Hawke, like most people who are found in places they should not be, was suddenly in big trouble. He was allowed a few moments to question Von Bolt’s motives…how he rose to power…where is resources came from…what he hoped to accomplish by taking all the life force from the earth…but though he demanded he didn’t get answers. Nope. Instead, Von Bolt served up a nice big helping of Oozium 283, an all-consuming substance.
Hawke, realizing that his life was in danger, fled Black Hole…and in a split-second decision, took Lash with him, in case he was captured and needed a distraction. Relentless pursued by the Oozium, the two found themselves in Allied Nations territory. And just when it seemed like they were done for…
Allied Nations COs rushed to their aid, sent to help by Jake. Once Hawke and Lash were relatively safe there was some debate and convincing, but eventually the opposing COs reluctantly agreed to let the former Black Hole officers assist them. Hawke went on to fight with the Allied Nations, feeding them information and explaining Von Bolt’s plot, claiming that his reasons were to save the land that Black Hole threatened to consume. As he and the other COs worked to defeat the army he formerly served, Hawke began to find that…he kind of liked them. Kind of.
The group fought relentlessly and their efforts destroyed the Black Obelisk and brought them up against Von Bolt himself. Of course, the good guys always win…but not without a price. Severely weakened, Von Bolt revealed that the energy stolen from Omega Land was being used to fuel his life-support system (which is a chair, go figure)…and a massive Oozium. It was this dire situation that led Hawke to confess to Lash that he had been using her. To his surprise, she instantly forgave him and the two pushed on with the other COs to defeat Von Bolt once and for all.
But as the final blow was struck, it became clear that Von Bolt had no intention to die…in fact, his life support system threatened to repair all that the Allied COs had just destroyed. Realizing that someone needed to act and they needed to act fast, Jake was implored to finish Von Bolt once and for all.
He couldn’t do it. Instead, the boy shot the life support system and immediately after that, the base began to collapse. As the Allied COs made a run for it, Hawke stayed behind to make sure Von Bolt didn’t escape as well. The base self-destructed and neither made it out.
On the plus side, peace in Omega land was restored! Yaaaaay!
That was about a year ago. The Allied COs presumed that Hawke was dead…and moved on.
Of course, Hawke would never kick it that easily. In his personal confrontation with Von Bolt, he took the chair and miraculously made it out of the base alive. Well aware of his heroic sacrifice, Hawke didn’t make himself known to the other COs and instead spent the time after the war using the massive amounts of energy stored in the life support system to reverse the damage done to Omega Land.
He became somewhat of a wanderer after that, choosing to remain dead in the eyes of the Allied COs…until he visited the abandoned Black Hole headquarters in December. He was originally there to see what he might be able to salvage…but instead nearly crossed paths with a certain afro-sporting girl. Luckily, he was able to keep himself hidden, but he couldn’t help overhearing her talk about a school she attended.
In the two months following, Hawke did a fair bit of recon and research involving this “SumaBura Gakuen”. Turned out that quite a few Allied COs were now living there. Still, Hawke bided his time as usual, waiting for an opportune moment to come out of hiding.
Soon enough, it came. Word spreads quickly between cities, and news of a crisis piqued Hawke’s interest. With time running out, he made the decision to stop being “dead” and come to Smash Academy to aid Lash.
And who knows? Maybe if SumaBura survives the invasion, he’ll apply for a job.

In-Character Example Post:
Dressing room, anyone? This place is a school?
Well…I’m sure at any other time, it suffices as such.
That said, it seems I’ve come at a rather inopportune moment, however, if there is any way for me to assist during this conflict, I believe my experience would prove to be a great asset.
As for the…familiar faces. I’m sure this comes as quite a shock, considering the circumstances under which we parted, but seeing as this institution appears to be in a state of crisis, it’s best to put the past behind us.
[Private to Lash, unhackable level 5.] This must be a…surprise for you, and for that I apologize.
It’s been…a while. Have you been doing well? You seem to be enjoying yourself here…your handiwork is all over the place.
I’m sure we’ll have more time to catch up after this mess is over. [/Private]
