A random blip of perspective on my radar.

Matthew Cowles died. Frankly I had no idea who he was, and I guess unfortunately that would be true of most people because the headlines all read some variant of Christine Baranski's husband dies. Christine Baranski is someone I'm always delighted to see on screen. I can't get enough of her. So it's saddens me that she is losing her husband of 30 ( Read more... )

This is why I don't get papers or watch much news.  I do watch in depth reporting at times.  Frontline is a favorite.

I've liked Christine since Adam Family Values when she played a camp counseler.   It took me a few years to figure out that was her though.

I'm a sucker for news, but I try to keep in mind that I read it for entertainment and should be careful about getting too sucked in.

I'm sorry for Christine Baranski, losing him. And for Hollywood to lose an example of a good marriage.

I confess to having a weakness for gossip sites like Dlisted (mostly because of Michael K's offbeat way with words) and they're all definitely obsessed with the dark side of Hollywood. I think that character actors and actresses in general, not being as stalked by the paparazzi as the so-called beautiful people, also not seeking the limelight, tend to have good, long marriages or relationships maybe even owing to them not being thrust (or tossing themselves) into the fishbowl.

I hear about happy marriages between some - Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates, Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn up till their deaths... I think fame makes a tough environment for relationships to thrive in, so it's always nice to see people that put the work into it.

Yeah, if I read more gossip I might have more perspective. I can actually see the appeal of gossip as sort of a non horrific sort of drama to keep things entertaining. I real a lot of news purely for entertainment and you know, people die a lot, get raped - horrid crap. Who went into rehab and who cheated on who might be a step up.

It's definitely a nice escape and it often helps assuage any jealousy I might have of the rich and famous. Celebrities! Just like us! Their lives can suck, but so much more!

If you ever want to read gossip, I rec Dlisted for being mean (to the worst of them, not the nice ones), but so hilariously that it takes the sting out. Perez Hilton is the devil. I stay far away from clicking on anything that would lead to his site.
