Appearance:
PB: Misaki Asou. She has short black hair that she cut herself and large, expressive blue eyes. Her facial features are very petite, and she has a very 'pretty girl' look about her. She’s rather tall, around 5 foot 9 inches, pretty skinny, and a bit tanned. She's quite flat, without any curves.
Her clothing style is pretty casual - the only thing that’s different from her PB and her. She likes wearing skinny jeans, sneakers, and other informal clothes. She does have odd preferences when it comes to clothes - she's very fond of hats, handfans, boots, and Converse. However, she will stay away from skirts, dresses, and anything else that close to dressy.
Personality: Kuri appears to be a very flighty and brash person. She is very much a person who talks before they think, leading her to get in trouble for mouthing off quite often. She has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor, and she loves to laugh. She can never sit still and has a constant wish to be on the move. She has a very ‘don’t-care’ type of attitude; she’ll throw random clothes on in the morning, not minding whether they match or not, and she never takes notes in class. Instead, she’ll pursue random little hobbies, like folding origami paper cranes or making friendship bracelets. However, she has a very harsh work ethic after school, often studying late into the nights what she disregarded during the day. This is because she hates disappointing others, and is determined to make her brothers proud of her. Her ‘don’t-care’ attitude extends to the point where she’ll readily tell people that her mother is dead or that she was in a gang for a few years. She’s basically decided that she won’t mope about her past, and so, doesn’t - she has a ridiculous amount of determination when it comes to her decisions. She has a very flighty mind, and will switch topics often in a conversation, often saying things that have no connection to what she just said. She’s also extremely mischievous, and loves to tease people.
One of the most important facets of her personality is her absolute devotion to her mother. 'Like Mum always said' is one of her most commonly used phrases, and she'll often go off on a tangent praising her mother until someone shuts her up. She is also very proud of her brothers, and aspires to be like them.
Another thing to note about her is the fact that she has very few close friends. In fact, her only true friends are her three brothers. For some reason, she finds it hard to keep friends, always finding fault with them or inadvertently offending them. After a few years of living on the streets, it’s very hard for her to trust people, and so, is usually very closed-off towards them. Though she seems to be gregarious, she’s careful enough with her words that though no one knows much about her, they feel as if they do. Because of her distinct lack of friends, she buries herself in other passions - mostly sparring and music. She has incredible focus and determination when doing these things, and can spend hours playing guitar or training without noticing where the time has gone. Of course, as soon as someone brings her back to the real world, she’ll complain of hunger and thirst, necessities that she forgoes when doing something she’s passionate about.
When she does manage to make a friend, she is intimately close to that person. She is usually very closed off about the deeper secrets of her familial situation and her past - such as her issues with romance and her father; when she makes a friend, she’ll have no qualms telling that person anything. She’s very affectionate and she’ll almost act needy, always demanding hugs and kisses on the cheek from that person. She views her need for acceptance as a weakness, and so, will pretend that she can live without that other person, but more often than not, she’s lying through her teeth. Basically, she needs warm and loving people in her life now that she doesn’t live with her brothers anymore.
Of course, she has a darker side. She can be very sarcastic at times and has a biting tongue, which makes some people think she’s horribly mean. She doesn’t mind if people hate her, however - in fact, she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her (another place where her ‘don’t-care’ attitude comes into play). She is very stubborn, and hates admitting that she’s wrong. She's also very prideful, and can't stand apologizing to someone who isn't her close friend. She has a horrible temper, and frankly blows up at the little things that irritate her - stupid people, for example. She’s very firm in her beliefs, and it takes quite a lot to change her mind. This also goes for her bad habits. She’s a smoker - though not ridiculously addicted, she has no wish to stop smoking. Instead, she refuses to quit, just because it’s something that she’s done for a long time and believes that quitting is a sign of weakness in herself. Like this, once she’s made a decision, she won’t go back on it even if it was the wrong choice, bravely facing whatever consequence might befall her. In this way, she is very courageous, if not a bit foolhardy. Her pride is more important to her than her safety, and she’s very willing to take dares or try new things. She’s also very loyal to her close friends.
To sum it up, she’s basically a ‘don’t-care’-ish type with no regards for rules that she doesn’t agree with or people that she can’t stand. However, deep inside, she craves acceptance - just from one or two people, so that the part of her that needs to feel loved is satisfied.
Powers/Abilities: She doesn't have any powers, but she is rather intelligent, along with being very athletic and good at street fighting.
World Background: My character's world is 21st century England - Liverpool to be exact. There aren't any changes made to present day, really.
History: Kuri grew up in Liverpool, England, where she now lives. Her father was Japanese and her English mother had Japanese grandparents. Therefore, though she was primarily raised as a ‘westerner’, she has many physical traits that are native to Japan. She was the third in her family - she has twin brothers (Aidan and Avery) who are eight years older than her and a younger brother (Chen) who is four years younger than her. She grew up primarily surrounded by music; her mother was a very accomplished opera singer who could also play a plethora of other instruments. As a result, she and her brothers were taught to use music as an escape from a very young age. Additionally, she was always a ‘mummy’s girl’, very much in awe of the gifts that her mother possessed.
When she first went to school, she often got in trouble for talking too much and not paying attention to the teacher’s instructions. Therefore, she became known as a ‘problem child’, even though she had good grades and was an excellent student. Kuri, instead of trying to improve herself, embraced this title; she continued to land herself in trouble and become well known as the class clown. As she grew older, she began to hang out with the delinquents and truly ‘bad’ kids in the school. One of them particularly, Kenny Maycott, became a sort of mentor to her - he initiated her into their gang, introduced her to the world of street life, and got her started on smoking. Kuri’s family, though worried for her, let her carry on as she wished; Kuri promised that she wasn’t stupid and wouldn’t do anything to harm them or herself.
All this changed when she was 13. Her mother, her idol, was suddenly diagnosed with lung cancer - far too late for the doctors to do anything but ease her pain. Within a year, she had passed away from the disease.
The whole household was broken. Their father lost himself completely in his grief and shut himself up in his room, refusing to work or take care of his children. Kuri began to develop a vengeance towards their father for leaving his own kids to fend for themselves in this time.
It was six months before their father emerged from his grief-stricken state. As soon as he made an appearance, Kuri let her anger loose. She berated him for leaving them alone, and in true Kuri-style, continued to rant at him. He yelled back at her, blaming her for the death of his wife, as second-hand smoking was one of the causes of lung cancer. Though the doctors had denied that this was the cause of her mother’s cancer, Kuri had still felt a certain amount of guilt - and her father only escalated this. The quarrel turned violent and in a fit of anger, she ran away from home.
She found a home with Kenny Maycott’s gang and spent a couple of years on the streets. In this time, she learned a lot about how other people operated and of course, how to fight like a street kid. She also got entangled in a romantic relationship with Kenny himself. During this time, her brothers frantically searched for her - and finally managed to find her after a year and a half. Once they found her, Kuri was forced to leave the gang. Of course, the gang itself wasn’t too pleased with Kuri leaving - even Kenny turned on her, threatening her with bodily harm if she left them. Kuri barely managed to escape from them, and from then on, refused to get romantically attached to anyone.
After bringing her back home, Aidan and Avery broke the stunning news to her - their father had disappeared a few months earlier. Just… disappeared. They then proceeded to tell her exactly how disappointed they were in her. Chen, struck with PTSD, had extreme difficulty digging himself out of the disorder as a result of Kuri leaving - he was incredibly attached to her. Kuri was heartbroken at the pain she’d caused her brothers - she’d never thought of how they’d feel when she had run away. Though she made claims that she’d ‘never do something like that again’, the twins, now her guardians, refused to trust her and became very overprotective of her. She claims it bothers her, but in reality, she doesn't mind.

Okay, okay.... Where the hell am I? This is-- who took me-- where are my brothers? I swear, if I find the person who did this, I will kick your ass into next week. I'm not even kidding. This-- oh god--
Where am I?!

Kuri ran down a street, taking a left, then stopping and groaning. She already sucked with directions. It didn't help that this stupid city seemed to change around all the time. She could barely orient herself before the buildings seemed to shift, and she was standing in front of a different apartment number.
Stopping to ask the people in the streets didn't help either. None of them seemed to have any idea what she was talking about. She had almost thought it was just in her head - but that was ridiculous. She wasn't crazy. At least, not completely insane.
She sighed, running a hand through her hair. Maybe it didn't really matter. After all, she wasn't a stranger to living on the streets. Who needed a roof above their heads? Wimps, that's who. There were more important things to do than figure out why these buildings kept on changing around.
Like investigating that weird little cellphone type thing. At least, it looked like a cellphone - just without the numbers. Maybe it would give her a clue as to how to get out of here. After all, she sure as hell wasn't staying for more than a few hours. She had her brothers to get back to, not to mention her guitar, and her cigarettes.
