I think of my friend Andie Petkus. She started out with non-profit fundraising, but her hobby/love was photography. She started photographing everyone's events-- and now does it more than full-time and does quite well by herself. She now has more business contacts and events than she can possibly do, and has several other photographers that she has to delegate business to. It took her eight years to build her business to this point. But she's so happy she "took the plunge".
Don't know if as an artist that you would want to do photography as a business (wedding, events, portraiture...) but if you did, I hope that you would go forth knowing that you would be successful. Because I have total confidence in you that you would be.
Also, another thing. My Dad was a musician for many years. He says it's not the best musician that gets the booking-- it's the last one standing. Though of course it helps to be good at what you do-- as you clearly are.
