So, this is a lot like living in prison, I imagine, except without the buttsects and the shivving and the fermented turkey gravy and stuff.
I spent 30 days in the Hole (Lewiston, actually, which wasn't that bad, but the Red Lion? omg, what a dive.) And, as a reward for good behavior, I get to stay at the swankly Residence Inn in downtown Boise now. OK, it hasn't been remodelled in probably 20 years, but it's still a step up, ok? Plus it's Boise, which I am becoming relatively fond of, partly because of all the sunshine, partly because of the awesome parks system they have here. Speaking of, my hotel backs right onto Ann Morrison Park, which means I just have to walk around the block to get to it. (Yes, 3 sides of the block to get to the park, because the hotel has a fence up to keep the vagrants from roaming the back doors of our rooms, I guess. Like that's going to stop them.)
So, I walked to the park this morning, and walked the driveway which leads in a little loop back around to the entrance, passing a couple parking lots and some tennis courts, etc.
I counted paces on the way back from about halfway point, and it appears it takes me about twenty minutes to walk from my room, around this walk and back, which is somewhere in the neghborhood of 1700 paces, which at about 5 ft per pace works out to around 8500 ft, or 1.6 miles! (The blocks are probably around 60-80 paces per side, for reference.)
Now, I could be off on the time, because I checked the time about 150-200 paces in, and guessed at how long I'd been walking, and I guessed at where the halfway point was (the furthest distance from the hotel might not be the halfway point, yanno?), there's a good chance my legs take shorter paces on the second half, and I may have repeated steps 600-700 or 700-800 because I just count 100 at a time and keep track of which hundred I'm on.
But hey, it's a start, and gives me something to count next time. :P
In the meantime, the park is about 4 times this distance in length. I don't think I'm going to work up to a full length walk around the park in the 30 days I have left here. Even very conservatively speaking, that's a solid 6 miles of walking or more.
I find my weight isn't improving much- of course, I haven't been watching my intake all that well, and exercise has been intermittent at best, and mostly non-existant. I've bounced around between 255 and 265 since I got here, which is between 10-20 lbs more than I was bouncing around 6 months ago. :( I got as low as 235 at one point. 245 was my norm though.
Now that I have a kitchen again, and a full size fridge, the diet ought to improve substantially. Living out of a minifridge and a microwave sucks at the best of times.
Weather the next few days will be warm. 92 today, I think, with varying temps up to 96 on Tuesday. And frankly, it's not so dry as last year, when I handled high temps with no worries because there wasn't a drop of humidity in the state. So, this business of walking in the morning is just the ticket, I think. Get the exercise done when the shade feels nice, and temps are in the 70's. I was out there today until about 8:16, and it was just warming up when I got done. :D
And now I have all day to sit in my room. Hah! I'm going to find things to do today.
Well, ok, once my legs quit aching, naps sound inviting. Maybe I'll soak a bit first. ;)
