I'm feeling a little light-headed

because I just spent $202 on amazon.com.

On the upside, I ordered 18 books that I need to read between now and the end of April, and they're a very substantial part of my list, and I need to own them. And several times I chose the more expensive edition (i.e. Broadview rather than World's Classics) so that I have the scholarly edition for work.

I have a vague idea that money spent on books is *good*, whereas money spent on shoes is *naughty*. (I should say, I have developed a penchant for nice shoes of late!) Which reminds me of the time the insurers told my dad he needed to double the amount of his contents insurance, because his books weren't covered! He told them to go away, because if the house burnt down he'd only replace 10% of them...

In other news, Sarah Nutton and Shahira both send you their love. I went to my first SW alumni event in the five years since I quit. It was very strange. But I'm looking forward to lunch with Dan Moore tomorrow!
