I didn't even go to my prom -- I figured if I couldn't go with Ruka, screw it. *shrugs* I really hate how incredibly, militantly heterosexist prom is -- kids are more or less expected to have heterosexual sex prom night! It makes me sick. . .
What worries me is now kids are expected to go through all that twice -- first with a junior prom, then the senior prom! One of my coworkers is buying her daughter a ridiculously expensive dress (that she really can't afford) for her daughter's junior prom. o_O
We had a special dance for each grade in HS: The Freshman Dance, Sophmore Hop, Junior Prom, and Senior Dinner/Dance. The last one was the only one that provided a meal. Only the Junior Prom was really formal. The Senior Dinner/Dance was where they handed out Senior Awards(you know, Best Smile, Biggest FLirt, etc). It was fairly casual, for a "formal". I went to all of them. I only had a "date" for the one. I went to most of the others with a group of female friends. I was fine with that.
