Scooter

So on Friday, I was driving home via a different route than normal (140th street instead of 148th) and I came across a motorcycle shop that I didn't know existed. I have been looking into getting a scooter recently so I took a look at what they had. It turns out they had a "used" Yamaha Vino 50cc scooter that was an awesome black color and it had ( Read more... )

Cooool! :)

Be safe, man -- especially be careful when the roads are wet. I saw a guy slip and fall on one of these things and thump into the side of a car once. (he was okay, but very lucky)

"Bedivere".

Don't worry, I'm almost fully geared up now and will have everything soon. I just need more color for my jacket.

By "awesome black color" you of course mean "not very visible to other motorists on the road"?

Sorry, I just really needed to make that point.

Actually, a little while ago I put together a page of things I learned about how to properly ride a motorbike. There's so little information out there, and some of it is incomplete or just plain wrong. Tell me what you think: http://peter.the-room.org/~peter/scooter.html

Yeah right now I have a black helmet and a gray and black jacket because that's basically what they had at the store. I need to find a good bright color jacket that:
A. Is safe
B. Is preferably a two layer jacket for summer/winter
C. Doesn't look terrible on me or with the scooter

Any suggestions?

I've also thought about maybe some kinda thin bright vest like what construction works use for going over the equipment that I already have.

My experience has been that even down here in the South, wearing something as insulating as a leather jacket in the summer is not that bad. You will get cooled off when you move.

If you're going to replace one of those pieces of gear, I would actually recommend the helmet first. The helmet will attract motorists' attention better than the jacket, I think. (But what do I know?)
