Trouble, indeed. Small but potent -- this is really incredible. How can so much be packed into only 100 words? I'm not sure, but all I know is that this is insanely enjoyable. Thanks for sharing, BlackestFaery.
I think the magic of drabbles is that you have to tell a story within the 100 words. That's all you get. I see them as snapshots of a possibly bigger story, but there is just enough to allow the drabble to stand on its own.
And to be honest? They're about the only things I can write nowadays without expending many hours of agonizingly slow typing. Epically long oneshots and multi-chapter fics are just beyond me D:
But, really, thanks again for reading! I appreciate your feedback ♥
When the story is this enjoyable I can see how it would be agonizing to type. I think it's clear a lot of work went into this!
There's a fun drabble competition happening in the KakaSaku Dreamwidth community right now. It started today so it's not too late to jump in. 30 drabbles for 30 days. In my mind, I have already dubbed you the "Queen of Drabbles" so if you joined, I'm sure you whatever wrote would be a pleasure to read. The request may be more out of selfishness than anything. XD
Thank you very much. Not much makes me blush these days, but your compliment sure did :)
I actually did see the post about the Last Fan Standing contest over at the kakasaku DW community. I haven't decided on if I'll join, because I struggle with just arbitrarily writing something for the sake of writing it. Maybe I'll wait until a prompt inspires something and jump in. I don't hold out any hope that I'll actually win, but I think I can contribute a few drabbles here and there :)
I do regret how short it is, but I really struggle with writing long sex scenes, let alone long oneshots. But maybe I'll make that one of my New Year's resolutions.
Maybe I just need to write a scene 100 words at a time, and then next thing I'll know, I'll have written a decent length fic! Haha, it's worth a shot :)
You say you write short smut like it's a bad thing, but I think the size fits the style This is sexy and well-written. Short as it is, it manages to tell a story or their relationship, or, at least, imply it pretty well. I say it counts!
As for the self-deprecating tone, it's more a frustration that I seem to have hit a very low ceiling on my word counts these days. Add to that my impression of there being a stigma attached to drabbles. People go "oh, it's just 100 words. That's not enough to engage my attention or emotions. Why can't you write something longer?" The point of drabbles is the exact opposite, but they tend to not get as much attention from readers.
But enough of that! Thank you again for reading. Your comments are lovely and I truly appreciate them. I do plan to write more of them :)
Haha, I speak Self-Deprecation, so I understand completely.
That's not enough to engage my attention or emotions
Not true! I feel like the internet has really diminished my attention span, so when I see a drabble, I'm more likely to read and be fully engaged than with more writing. (I like the unsaid-things style, though. So.) But I know how you feel. I hate it when all I can write are little snippets that don't "measure up" to anything substantial.
If you're anything like me, your word counts probably will come back when they feel like it, which sucks. But in the meantime, I think the world could use more drabbles.
Yeah, the word counts popping over a 1000 surprise me now and then. I'm going to need it soon, though, since I've signed up for a Draco/Hermione challenge that has a minimum word count of 2500 words. Lucky for me, the plot I have will ensure that I go way over. But I need to start right now on it because I'll be needing every day :S
You sound lovely. Friends? Can I woo you with my one and only Hog Gimmick fic...?
