Good Days
Series: The Hunger Games
Pairing: Peeta/Katniss
Rating: G
Word Count: 175
Summary:
He is elbow deep in dough and making a spectacular mess.
But it isn’t the smell of vanilla in the air or the powdery drips spotting the counter that make Katniss pause in the doorway. No.
It is Peeta. In her (their) kitchen, making his (their) breakfast.
She swallows and stares at the smooth stretch of t-shirt across his back. Stares until her eyes water and she is sure that the memory is burned permanently into the back of her eyelids. And then she is moving.
He starts with the sudden press of her body before managing a kiss to the sliver of her face not burrowed against his shoulder.
“Morning,” he whispers as she leans back. “What was that for?”
Katniss is silent long enough to feel him shift more in her direction. She thinks about mentioning hormones and missed cycles but decides that breakfast can come first. Her smile is crooked with the mix of joy, anxiety, and hope.
“Today is a good day,” she declares simply. “Are the cheese buns ready yet?”
Goodnight ♥
