So beautiful. I love this story because it fills in those feelings that we couldn't quit explore within the context of the book because of the setting and the point but this conveys it beautifully!
(As an aside, I cannot wait until the movie comes out so there are more caps for Katniss/Peeta icons!)
Thank you so much! I think there's plenty of missing moments to explore in The Hunger Games, and while we do get the story from Katniss' point of view, she doesn't exactly explore her feelings too deeply. She, I think, actually shies away from them. And then that makes my job easier because I have artistic license to imagine everything else :)
Katniss is more of a DO than a THINK kind of girl so it's totally true she shies away from exploring her feelings. Plus I think growing up in the world she did, it wasn't worth all the pain to keep dwelling on how crappy it all was when she just had to survive.
Yes, there is a lot of unexplored feelings to write about! I haven't been able to break into the fic part of my obsession yet for some reason though...
Oh, Crys, you need to! I need more people on my flist that have read the books so I can discuss my endless feelings. Tumblr meets my graphic needs, but LJ is where I go to scratch my fic-me-now itch. And what better time than to start now? The movie's coming out on March 23 :)
And I'm glad you liked the last bit. I was wondering if that came out at all eloquent. It's the risk I take when writing at 2 in the morning, haha...
For me, yes. I have that horrible problem where you type one sentence, stare at it, hit backspace about ten times, retype half the sentence, stare at it, and then delete the whole damn thing because it doesn't seem just right.
Conversely, when it's late at night, I'm much too tired to do anything but write whatever's in my head in some disjointed stream of consciousness thing. But, happily enough, my writing usually doesn't turn up too all over the place, and it's just a matter of reviewing what I wrote the next morning and filling in the sketchy bits.
Yup-it's a trilogy, but it's not a daunting read. It's a YA series and I finished the entire thing in five days. Bump it up to the top of your list, missy!
You have an excellent Katniss voice! And you're very good at the quiet moments. There's kind of a soft desperation to this that is absolutely lovely. Good job!
Thank you! I tend to lean towards missing scene fics because that's where I get free reign over what I think went on. Makes it a lot easier on myself because no one can really say "well, that couldn't have happened", you know?
My word count is slowly but surely rising. Have you written any THG fic? I bet you'd be great at writing Peeta/Katniss or any ship you wanted.

This was beautifully worded. I especially love the last bit about crawling inside his skin to stay hidden. That is graphic love.
