Sam is home. The vet said he probably ingested a small amount of some chemical. It set off a physiological reaction -- his nose and mouth just drip like a faucet. They wanted to keep him for observation for two days, but my dad said no. It would've cost $1700, and we just can't afford that

...wait, what kind of vet charges that much to keep a cat for observation?

I was wondering the same thing. I paid $1300 for surgery and a week of hospitalization for my cat. Per chance, is this place called "Kitty Kare For The Stars"? 'Cuz you should never trust a place that sacrifices spelling for "kuteness."

Sounds like Sammy's getting better (and correctly spelled) care at home, anyway.

We took him on a Saturday morning, and they'd have kept him through the weekend. I expect the high fee was because of the off-hours, or, as my mom thinks, they saw dad drive up in his snazzy-lookin' Cadillac and bumped up the charge for him.

Sam was wiped out for the entire Saturday, and by Sunday afternoon, the Sick Kitty Scale had tilted bck from PATHETIC to PAIN IN THE ASS.
