Background:
http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Zabine_Chareuxhttp://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Crossbone_Gundam Zabine Chareux is the former commander of the Black Vanguard, an elite unit in the Crossbone Vanguard militia. In CE 123, the Vanguard invaded the Frontier IV (Formerly Side 4) space colonies and established the aristrocratic nation Cosmo Babylonia. Zabine was assigned as the aid of Berah Ronah, the Vanguard founder's granddaughter, up until her betrayal. Berah opposed her family's noble ideology and formed a resistance group against the Vanguard, resulting in a civil war. Many times for the Babylonia forces, Zabine would clash against Berah's long-time friend Seabook Arno, who knew her by her civilian name Cecily Fairchild (although their rivalry is not seen in the F91 movie). In CE 128, Cosmo Baylonia collapsed and both Cecily and her friend Seabook were apparently killed in an accident.
In CE 133, Cecily, again adopting her noble Ronah name, revived the Crossbone Vanguard to fight against the Jupiter Empire led by Cruz Dogatie. Zabine remained in the Vanguard, becoming the ace pilot of Gundam unit X2, but he was still dedicated to the principles of aristocracy and showed underlying tones of sabotaging the New Vanguard's mission. Seabook Arno, who changed his name to Kincaid Nau (or Kinkedo), realized Zabine's lack of change and has been highly cautious of his rival. Zabine fought to maintain everyone's trust, especially Kincaid's, while also searching for an opporutinity to trigger his plan.
In Vol 3, his chance arrived after a failed assault on Jupiter's moon Io to kill Dogatie While the damaged Mother Vanguard ship pursued Crux's main force, which was heading towards Earth with nuclear bombs installed in the mothership Jupitris 9, Zabine and his followers took control of the ship. Zabine held Crux's daughter Bernadette (real name is Tetenith) hostage and unveiled his plan of reviving Cosmo Balyonia by consolidating his supporters and Berah with the Jupiter Empire. He conspired with Jupiter member Karas and they both agreeed that the Mother Vanguard ship was to be surrended and the pilots arrested as A-rank criminals. While Zabine escorted Berah and Bernadette to Karas's ship The Jibia, rookie VG member Tobia Arronax intervened and freed them. Zabine escaped and fought Kincaid in space momentarily until the Death Gale squad arrived to take on X-1. Karas successfully captured Bernadette, and both Zabine and an injured Tobia were taken as well Tobia goes to FIGHT-In-SPARTAAAAAAAA!, while the rest of the Vanguard escaped.
Zabine underwent a very terrible interrogation by the Death Gale leader, Giri. He stated that he wanted to follow Jupiter Empire because of its aristrocratic-like principles, but Giri enjoyed tormenting him until his mind crippled. Meanwhile, after fighting Death Gale member Rosemarie in X-2 (oh, the shame), Tobia returned to the Mother Vanguard by using X-2's Core Fighter, while Bernadette stayed in attempt to convince her father.
In Vol 5, The Crossbone Vanguard was coerced into a fight against the Federation Forces by Zabine, who now piloted Crossbone X-2 Kai. The Jupiter Forces intervene to finish the pirates off once and for all, and Berah ordered everybody to escape. After Kincaid got worn down against F-91 Fed pilot Morrison and the Death Gale squad, Zabine faced his rival and destroyed X-1's cockpit, which then plummeted to Earth. The Mother Vanguard self-destructed.
In Vol 6, Zabine wholeheartedly yielded to Crux Dogatie and his ambition to destroy all of Earth. After regrouping on Earth, the Crossbone Vanguard literally rocket up to Earth's orbit to support the Earth Federation against Crux's Jupiteris. Zabine encountered Kincaid with his X-2 a final time and was killed when X-1's heat dagger struck X-2's cockpit.
Personality: In contrast to Tobia, and somewhat Kincaid, the X-2's pilot is a handsome, calm and composed man who is like the professional service man within the Vanguard.
Zabine looks up to his skill as an ace pilot highly since the Cosmo Babylonia days; or rather, it is his fascination of aristocracy that ties him to elitist thinking. When Zabine was assigned to protect and train Berah Ronah, this was all due to his respectable skill as the commander of the Black Vanguard squadron, and his interest in nobility progression. This ideal would never wane even years after Cosmo Babylonia collapsed. Throughout the war against the Jupiter Empire, he sought the revival of aristrocracy within the Vanguard. The system of the Jupiter Empire, such as their soldiers' undying loyalty to Dogatie, resembled closely with aristocracy, and Zabine found utter respect in that. He doesn't even find his ambitions an act of "betrayal" either, since Berah use of the Vanguard belied what it was originally formed for.
Despite following Berah's order to avoid reckless killing, Zabine thinks its better to defeat the enemy as quickly as possible. He told Tobia that the enemy should not be spared lest they'll end up being encountered in battle again. On the other hand, he seems to be against the slaughtering of the weak, according to the Mobile Suit Gundam F91 movie when Iron Mask/Carozzo sent out the Bugs. So, chivalry encompasses Zabine; even for the New Vanguard that he wishes to revert back to its roots, he fights for it at the best of his ability. Also, Zabine doesn't harbor (or openly express) any belittling feelings towards the Vanguard members...
Except Kincaid Nau, his rival and the one who is most cautious of Zabine. He would still follow Lady Berah, agreeing with her choice in warring against the Jupiter Empire (until his betrayal), even though deep inside he dislikes Kincaid for swaying her from astristrocratic methods.
AFTER being cruelly tortured by the Jupiter Empire, Zabine's mind is totally broken. His usual cool character is changed where he doesn't seem to mind the complete destruction of Earth, and he is in a state where he always show a smile. He didn't even regard Berah's life when she tried to transfer weapons to X-1 via core fighter (or he probably didn't know that was her). Zabine becomes a complete slave to Dogatie and sees the Jovian leader as an ultimate ruler.

The Shot Lancer, which contains a four-barrel machine gun, can be used in both melee and range, but Zabine prefers to use it in melee. The Buster Launcher is a strong beam rifle for precision. The Brand Markers, installed on each arm, can materialize either a round shield for defense or a beam spike for offense.

Upgrades: Crossbone Gundam X2 Kai - After Tobia escapes Jupitris mothership by using X-2's core fighter, The Empire installs the X-2 with a standard cockpit and new upgraded X-Thrusters. It seems to be distinguished by its red spikes. Kai seems to be faster and more maneuverable than before, but Zabine is unable to escape.
